Board of Directors

A former middle school science teacher, Al has more than 45 years of experience in the field of education. He has conducted Professional Development workshops across the country and the world on global environmental issues. He was instrumental in starting Green School programs in Wisconsin and at the national level with Project Learning Tree. Al continues his work with Green Schools by serving on the Board of Directors of the Green Schools National Network. He has received various education awards including the national award Outstanding Service to Environmental Education at the Global Level from the North American Association for Environmental Education for his work in 20 countries across the world. 

After retirement, he formed the nonprofit Our First Garden, Inc. to provide resources and training for schools and teachers in developing countries.  “It is a true joy to visit and work with students and teachers in different countries. I am inspired by the excellent work I see teachers doing and by the students’ passion for learning and wanting to do great projects for their communities.”
